Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Leading Eyelid Surgery Expert in Atlanta

Heavy upper lids and puffy lower lids make you look tired, sad, or older than you feel, and no serum or filler can lift skin that has already stretched. Blepharoplasty with Dr. Diane Alexander removes the excess and reshapes the eye area so you look rested, open, and like yourself.

Discover If Eyelid Surgery Is Right For You

The Eyes Are Where Age Shows First. They Are Also Where It Fixes Fastest.

Skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the face, which is why it loosens first and why a small change there reads so loudly. The upside is that eyelid surgery is one of the shortest procedures we do, with one of the quickest recoveries, and the difference in how your whole face reads is out of proportion to the size of the surgery.

WHAT IT CORRECTS

What Eyelid Surgery at Artisan Addresses

Upper Eyelids

Loose skin that folds over the crease, hides your eyeshadow, and in some cases rests on the lashes. Dr. Alexander removes the excess through an incision tucked into the natural crease of the lid, so the scar disappears into a fold you already have.

Lower Eyelids

Bags and puffiness caused by fat pads that have pushed forward, along with loose skin and fine creasing below the lashes. Depending on your anatomy, the incision sits just under the lash line or inside the lid where it is never seen.

Both Together

Many patients treat upper and lower lids in one session. One procedure, one recovery, and a result that looks balanced rather than half finished.

WHO IT IS FOR

Is Eyelid Surgery Right for You?

Good candidates typically:

✦ Have upper lids that look heavy or hooded, or lower lids that look puffy or tired, regardless of how much sleep they get

✦ Have tried Botox, fillers, or skincare and found the real issue is skin and fat, not lines

✦ Are in good general health with no eye conditions that would affect healing

✦ Do not smoke, or are willing to stop before surgery

✦ Want to look refreshed and like themselves, not altered

THE PROCESS

What to Expect, From Consultation to Final Result

01. Consultation

Meet Dr. Alexander at our Northside office. She assesses your eye area, listens to what you want to change, and gives you detailed, honest recommendations. You leave knowing what she suggests, why, and what it costs.

02. Preparation

Once you decide to move forward, we schedule your surgery and walk you through preparation, including which medications to pause and how to reduce bruising ahead of time.

03. Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery is performed in our office under local anesthesia. Lower eyelid surgery is done in our operating room under general anesthesia or monitored sedation, depending on your plan. Most procedures take one to two hours and you go home the same day.

04. Recovery

Expect swelling and bruising for the first week or two. Ice, head elevation, and arnica handle most of it. Sutures come out around day six or seven. Most patients are back to desk work within a week, with eye makeup and contacts after two weeks and full exercise at four to six weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

They will notice you look rested. They will not know why. Incisions hide in the upper lid crease and along or inside the lower lash line, and Dr. Alexander removes only what needs to go. The goal is your eyes, opened up, not someone else's.
Most patients describe tightness rather than pain. Upper lids are numbed with local anesthesia and lower lids are done under sedation or general anesthesia, so you feel nothing during surgery. Afterward, ice and over-the-counter medication are usually all that is needed.
Upper eyelid results typically last ten to fifteen years or longer. Lower eyelid results are often permanent, since the fat that causes bags does not come back. Your face keeps aging, but the lids rarely need to be redone.
Yes. Facelift and neck lift are the most common pairings, and some patients add laser resurfacing to address fine lines eyelid surgery does not treat. Combining means one recovery instead of several. If eyelid surgery is combined with a facelift, a 23-hour observation stay at Northside Hospital is included for your safety.
Upper lid scars sit inside the natural crease. Lower lid scars sit just under the lashes or inside the lid where nothing is visible. Over several months they fade to a fine line that is difficult to find even when you look for it.
Both wait about two weeks. When you resume makeup, use new products and clean brushes to avoid irritation while the incisions finish healing.
Cost depends on whether you are treating upper lids, lower lids, or both, and whether any other procedures are combined. You receive exact pricing at your consultation after Dr. Alexander has examined you. Financing is available.
